Counselling typically focuses on specific issues or life challenges and aims to provide practical support and guidance to help you cope or make positive changes. It is often shorter-term and solution-focused.
Psychotherapy, on the other hand, explores deeper emotional difficulties and long-standing patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaviour. It tends to be longer-term and helps you gain greater self-understanding and lasting personal growth.
In practice, the two often overlap, and both provide a safe, confidential space to talk.
I offer both short and long-term counselling and psychotherapy. Each therapy session lasts for 50 minutes.
The length of therapy varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people benefit from just a few sessions focused on a specific issue, while others choose to work over several months or longer to explore deeper patterns and make lasting changes.
I will discuss this with you during our first session and review progress regularly to ensure the pace and duration of therapy feels right for you.
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and discuss what brings you to therapy. I will go through the assessment questions with you. You will be invited to talk about your current situation, what you would like to work on, and any goals or expectations you have.
I will explain how the process works, including confidentiality, session length, and practical details, and answer any questions you may have. It is also a chance to see if you feel comfortable working with me, as building a good therapeutic relationship is key to effective therapy.
If you are new to therapy, you can expect a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space to talk about what is on your mind. I will listen, help you explore your thoughts and feelings, and support you in finding ways to understand yourself and make positive changes. You set the pace, there is no right or wrong way to begin.
I offer online Zoom sessions. This means that you can access therapy from a location that is convenient to you. Video sessions may form part or the whole of the treatment depending on your location and availability.

Cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice, or missed sessions without notice, will be charged in full.
