I am an experienced Integrative Transpersonal Psychotherapist with a holistic approach to therapy. Integrative means that I draw from several modalities, namely, psychodynamic, humanistic, existential, and transpersonal. Hence, I do not have a 'one size fits all' approach. Instead, I meet the client where they are, which is informed by a heart-centred, client led approach and will take aspects from a particular principle/s and apply appropriately in service to whatever their needs might be.
"I believe that a different therapy must be constructed for each patient because each has a unique story."
Irvin D. Yalom
In recognition that we all respond better to some methods more than others for varying reasons, I use a number of tools to help with each therapeutic journey. This includes art, body work, breathing and grounding techniques, chair work, dream work, inner child work, music, visualisations.
My reason for becoming a psychotherapist was propelled by the fact that I knew that I wanted to enter a profession where I could be of service to others in what I considered to be a positive and worthwhile way. Equally, I found myself to be a good listener and often people (literally strangers) would for whatever reason feel sufficiently at ease to confide in me. I am passionate about this field of work! Even during my days of training it was not the theory (which plays its part) that I enjoyed the most, but my weekly one to one therapy work with clients. This is where the work begins! I view the therapist-client relationship very much as an exchange, as I remain humbled and grounded by each client who chooses to place their trust in me.
As a qualified IAIM Infant Massage instructor, I acknowledge the importance of early years and the quality of primary caregiving and its impact on adulthood. For this reason, I have an interest in Attachment styles and Boarding School Syndrome. Very often, our childhood experiences can act as a blueprint for our future adult relationships, behaviour, patterns, and responses (much of which has not been brought to consciousness).
Qi Gong (meditation, movement practice) has played an intermittent role in my life. Each time I return to it, I experience the benefits of deeper calmness, clarity, focus, and a greater connection to my body. I am incorporating it more and more into my life as part of my self-care and so that I can be at my very best for each client.
I also have an interest in nutrition (organic, biodynamic) and the correlation with 'good' gut health and the impact it can have on mood, motivation, energy levels, and brain fog. Furthermore, I believe that our thoughts and emotions have a direct impact on our well-being (mind/body connection). Thus, I enjoy enhancing my learning from experts in the field regarding the body's capacity to store trauma in the body and the ways that this can manifest. What is your body saying to you?
